9/11
The September 11, 2001 attacks often referred to as 9/11 or "nine eleven" consisted of a series of coordinated terrorist suicide attacks by Islamic extremists on that date upon the United States of America. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the WTC in NYC, one plane into each tower, resulting in the collapse of both buildings soon afterward and irreparable damage to nearby buildings. There were 2,974 fatalities, not including the 19 hijackers & the 246 people on the four planes. 2,603 in New York City in the towers and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. Among the fatalities were 343 NYC firefighters, 23 NYC police officers, and 37 Port Authority Police officers. An additional 24 people remain listed as missing.
