The Kodiak Bear is a unique subspecies of the brown bear. Kodiak bears are generally considered to be among the largest of all terrestrial bears, being comparable in size to the Polar Bear. A large male can stand over 10 feet tall when on his hind legs, and 5 feet tall when on all four legs. Boars, male bears can weigh over 1,500 lbs, Sows, females bears are about 20 percent smaller, and 30 percent lighter than boars.
