The Stanley Cup is the championship trophy of the National Hockey League. The Stanley Cup is the oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in North America. On March 17, 1894, in the first Stanley Cup playoff game ever, the Montreal Hockey Club beat the Ottawa Generals, 3-1, in the first Stanley Cup Final game.
